A new math fluency program from Legends of Learning
Math Basecamp is a game-based learning program that helps students
at all ability levels achieve math fluency.
WHY PLAY MATH BASECAMP
In Math Basecamp, students will move facts from working memory to long-term memory with an adaptive program with individualized instruction.
Daily celebration of new fact acquisition leads to engagement and supports a growth mindset.
Students will thrive in an engaging experience with educators able to track progress through realtime reporting.
A fun, educational approach will help students better achieve math fact mastery.
THE IMPORTANCE OF MATH FACT FLUENCY
The ability to recall basic math facts from long-term memory is foundational to freeing working memory for increasingly difficult challenges. When students master math facts, they:
MORE ACCURATELY RECALL MATH FACTS WITH REDUCED COGNITIVE LOAD
HAVE A DYNAMIC UNDERSTANDING OF OPERATION RELATIONSHIPS
ARE PREPARED FOR MORE CHALLENGING MATH PROBLEMS
How Math Basecamp sets
students up for success:
Starting from a diagnostic test, Math Basecamp will establish a competency baseline level for which the game will start and build from.
From there, Legends of Learning’s new math fluency program will help activate that prior knowledge and then strengthen the ability to recall those math facts.
Students are gradually introduced to new facts which are practiced alongside known math facts.
This process keeps repeating until all addition, subtraction, multiplication and division math facts are mastered. Mastery of Math Basecamp is achieved when students can recall facts effortlessly.
Through focused practice of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division math problems, students will be able to reach their peak math potential–and have fun doing so through video games!
The goal of fluency is movement of math facts from working memory to long-term memory. Students who are fact fluent should be able to not only effortless recall math facts, but also explain the answer.
With a focus on fact families, this approach is more than forcing memorization of facts, it’s a strategic approach to math that teaches the relationship of operations, and how to apply that to math problems.
The ability to understand relationships, strategies and fact families translates to problem solving flexibility and stronger critical thinking skills. Strong fluency allows students to see success independently, growing their sense of autonomy and confidence in learning math.
